This stay of execution needs to be seen against the background of a wider looming crisis outlined to staff at a UCU meeting on the day before Council discussed this issue. There will shortly be a ballot asking all Swansea University staff (with the exception of those in the Medical School) if they will accept a salary reduction of between 1 and 3 increments over 2 years. The alternative is said to be the loss of about 150 posts across the University. UCU at national level is said to be very unhappy that local union reps have agreed to the ballot.
